Troparion (from the Greek τροπάριον - tone, mode, melody, or trophy) is a short chant in which the essence of the holiday is revealed or the saint(s) are glorified.

Troparion is one of the oldest church hymns, with which Christian hymnography began its development.

The troparion of the holiday reveals its essence and glorifies it. The troparion dedicated to the saint reveals the features of the saint’s feat, glorifies his life and holiness.
