Archim. Ieremia Berbec, abbot of the Romanian Orthodox Monastery "St. Demetrius the New" in Middletown, New York, USA, gave an interview to the Putna Monastery's "Pentru tineri" magazine.

In the conversation with Iulian Tomeac, former president of ASCOR Suceava and the author of the interview, the archimandrite explains what monasticism is and how the choice to give your life to God is made.

"Those who receive this grace, expressed by the thought of going to the monastery, must realize that it is something very precious, in the sense that it is not of this world," emphasizes the archimandrite.

"At the same time, as foreign as it is to the world, it is as impossible to accomplish by the person's own powers, whoever that person may be. It is good to know two things: one, that it is priceless, and two, that it is impossible to accomplish by one alone."
