In Memoriam: Preoteasa Mihaela Iancu (1959–2026)

With profound sadness, yet with hope in the Resurrection and eternal life, we announce the falling asleep in the Lord of Preoteasa Mihaela Iancu, beloved wife of the Very Reverend Father Ioan Iancu, parish priest of the Nativity of the Ever-Virgin Mary Romanian Orthodox Parish in Laval (Montreal), Quebec.

Mihaela Iancu was born on November 27, 1959, in Pitești, Argeș County, Romania. She attended the Pitești High School of Arts, where she studied painting, and later graduated from the Faculty of Theology and Letters in Pitești. She served with dedication as a teacher of Religion, Romanian Language and Literature, and French, shaping generations of students through faith, culture, and love for others.

On June 16, 1983, she married Father Ioan Iancu, with whom she shared more than four decades of service and sacrifice in the Church, fulfilling her calling as a priest’s wife with love and devotion.

In February 2006, the family settled in Canada, where she continued to be a steadfast support to the parish community, a loving wife, a devoted mother, and an affectionate grandmother.

Timothy ScottShe taught Religion, Romanian, and French — that’s a heavy load, but from what I remember of her visits to our parish a few years back, she had that calm way of explaining things that stuck with the kids. May God grant her eternal rest and comfort Fr. Ioan and the boys.
