Archbishop George: To defend the principles in the Cyprus issuetranslated

The Archbishop of Cyprus, Mr. George, saying that Turkey is not going to be satisfied with new compromises. In his statements after the trisago and the laying of wreaths on Adriana by Archbishop Makarios III on the Throne, the Archbishop stated that Makarios was the kind of leader needed in today's era, noting that "for Makarios, compromise was not unacceptable, unconditional surrender was unacceptable".

He added that, while today calls are being made, even by the United Nations, for further concessions, the Cypriot side should, as he said, follow the stance of Makarios, arguing that "the conqueror cannot be satisfied with other concessions" and that a defense of principles is required. "These principles were defended by Makarios while he was alive. We have to listen to him to live," he added.
