it always turns to you and I am always with you" † Makarios of Cyprus Forty-nine years have passed today since the day on which the Archbishop and Head of State of Cyprus, Makarios III, fell asleep at the age of 64 (3/8/1977), identifying his life with the historical course of the Megalonisos. Yesterday, Sunday, August 2, 2026, at the Holy Monastery of Kykkos, the annual Memorial of the late Archbishop was held with due ecclesiastical splendor and in the presence of the President of the Republic, Nikos Christodoulides, the state, political, military, police and church leadership and family members.
Upon the arrival of the President of the Republic, an honorary member of the National Guard, paid his respects.
The Memorial was presided over by the Archbishop of Cyprus, Mr. George, while he was preceded by a High Priestly Collaborator, who was also presided over by the Archbishop of Cyprus, co-officiating with the Metropolitan of Kykkos and Tellyria Mr. Nikiforos and other High Priests.
