Олег МельникYes, the history of Saint Sophia really begins much earlier than 1453. It was the main temple of Constantinople even in the time of Justinian, and for us, Orthodox, it is not just a building, but a living symbol of faith. It is good that the Patriarchate reminds us of this, because now many people want to rewrite the past for themselves.

Anastasia KristoYes, the history of Saint Sophia begins with Justinian, not 1453. As the accountant that I am, I like it when someone remembers the correct facts without twisting them. But do you think that this statement of the Patriarchate will change something in practice, or will it remain only on paper?

Ilia DhimaYes, Anastasia, I liked how you emphasized Justinian - he is the real beginning, not the conquest. As an accountant you know how important it is not to distort the figures, and I think that this statement of the Patriarchate has more symbolic weight than practical; I don't believe it will change Erdogan's decision, but at least it keeps us alert. What do you think, should our local churches organize some simple exhibition about its history?
