Celebrating Metallurgist Day in Tashtagol: prayer for health and memory of the deadtranslated

July 31, 2026 · 1 min read

On July 15, 2026, in the chapel of the icon of the Mother of God “Quench my sorrows,” a traditional prayer service was held for the health of the mine workers, as well as for all the dead miners of the Tashtagol region, timed to coincide with Metallurgist Day.

The service was led by the rector of the Cathedral of the Great Martyr St. George the Victorious, Archpriest John Gensiruk, co-served by Priest Vladimir Neunyvakhin.

The event was attended by the director of the Tashtagol mine, Vladimir Vladimirovich Filimonov, site managers, management workers, relatives of the deceased miners, their workmates and workers of the enterprise.

This year the chapel has a special date: September 19 marks the 25th anniversary of its consecration. For a quarter of a century, the shrine has inextricably accompanied workers in the mining industry, consecrating their difficult work path and preserving the prayerful memory of the deceased.
