A memorial cross was consecrated at the BAMlaga camp cemetery in Svobodnytranslated

On July 30, with the blessing of Archbishop of Blagoveshchensk and Tyndinsky Lukian, on the territory of the BAMlag camp cemetery in the city of Svobodny (execution site) a memorial cross was consecrated, erected in memory of thousands of known and nameless prisoners of BAMlag and Amurlag who died during the years of political repression.

The rite of consecration was performed by the dean of the Svobodnensky church district, rector of the Church of the Holy Martyr Tsarevich Alexy in the city of Svobodny, Archpriest Valery Syrtsov. The rector of the Belogorsk metochion of the Holy Trinity Monastery, Abbot Platon, also took part in the commemorative event.

The BAMlag camp cemetery is one of the most tragic places of memory on the Amur land. From 1932 to 1953, camp prisoners who died from illness and exhaustion were buried here in mass graves, and death sentences passed by extrajudicial authorities were also carried out. The exact number of those buried is unknown to this day, but researchers believe that it is in the thousands.
