Saint Kallinikos Bishop of Edessa, Pelli and Almopia – A Modern Form of Sainthoodtranslated

August 8, 2026 · 1 min read

Today, August 8, our Church honors the memory of Saint Kallinikos, Bishop of Edessa. On the occasion of the holiday, read an article by the great nephew of the Saint, Theologian - High School Principal Mr. Georgios Poulos entitled: "Saint Kallinikos Bishop of Edessa, Pelli and Almopia - A modern form of holiness".  As Mr. Poulos states: "The Church in every age highlights people who, with their lives and example, become living testimonies of the Gospel. The saints are not persons removed from everyday life, but people who lived in the same difficulties as everyone else, faced trials, struggled spiritually and, with the grace of God, managed to transform their entire lives into a ministry of love. One of the most important forms of modern Orthodoxy Church is Saint Kallinikos, Metropolitan of Edessa, Pelli and Almopia, a bishop who stood out for his humility, love, selflessness and deep pastoral care".
