Work is progressing rapidly at Timvos Kasta, in Amphipolistranslated

Amphipolis is entering a new phase of prominence with a focus on the extensive protection, restoration and maintenance work that is progressing at the Tomb of Kasta, the magnificent monument, on a global level. The progress of the work at the Tomb - the unveiling of the monumental enclosure as a whole, the repositioning of the marble door of the Macedonian tomb, the completion of anti-flood protection, the start of the construction of the museum shell - create the conditions for its performance to the public in 2028. At the same time, the archaeological site is systematically being implemented in a wider strategic plan for the overall upgrade of the archaeological site of Amphipolis.

In this context, the Minister of Culture Lina Mendoni presented to the public two more important projects, which strengthen the infrastructure and upgrade the physical and digital experience of the visitors. The first concerns the only surviving Ancient Wooden Bridge in Strymons, after the completion of the maintenance work on the wooden piles, remains of the ancient construction, which dates back to the 6th century BC, as well as the installation of a new protective roof. Interestingly, the bridge is from the 6th century BC. preserved on Strymon. And when do they plan to open Tumbos Casta itself to visitors, in 2028? I would like to see the marble door and the whole peribole.

It is interesting that the wooden bridge on Strymon from the 6th century BC was saved and a new roof was put on it. But Tumbos Kasta, they say, will be opened as early as 2028. We will have to wait, but we would really like to see the marble doors and the entire peribole in person.

The wooden bridge on the Strymon sounds like a proper bit of engineering if those piles have lasted from the 6th century BC. Good they put a shelter over it. 2028 feels a long wait for the Kastas tumulus though – I’d like to see that marble door and the full perimeter wall in person one day.

The wooden bridge on the Strymon is the part that really caught my eye – those piles lasting from the 6th century BC is impressive. Good they’ve sheltered it properly. 2028 does feel a fair way off for the full Kastas site though; I’d love to see the marble door back in place one day.
