Damascus: The developments in Syria at the center of contacts of the Patriarch of Antiochtranslated

Thessalia-Salina Siabou, Political Director of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Special Representative of the Republic of Cyprus for Religious Freedoms and the Protection of Minorities in the Middle East, had meetings in Damascus focusing on regional developments, and especially the developments in Syria. Yesterday, Monday, August 3, 2026, Mrs. Siabou visited His Beatitude the Patriarch of Antioch and all the East, Mr. John I', in the Patriarchal Residence in the capital of Syria.

The discussion focused on the general situation in Syria as well as the issues related to the Christian populations and especially to the Greek Orthodox Patriarchate of Antioch.

Also, the strong ties between the Church of Antioch and Cyprus were confirmed.

On the same day, the Patriarch Mr. Ioannis met with the new Ambassador of Syria to Greece, Lamia Hariri, to whom he gave his best wishes for taking up her new diplomatic duties.

The Governor of the Central Bank of the country, Mohammed Shafat Raslan, also visited the Patriarch of Antioch and discussed with him the current developments in Syria.
