Crowd of faithful Serifians and vacationers at the Holy Church of the Annunciation of Chora Serifostranslated

August 2, 2026 · 1 min read

The Most Reverend Metropolitan of Syros, Mr. Dorotheos II, officiated this morning at the Holy Church of the Annunciation of Kato Chora Serifos, with the liturgical joint prayer of the island's Vicars and the Deacon, and the prayerful presence of the Mayor, Mr. Const. Revinthi, the President of the Municipal Council, Municipal Councillors, Fire Service Officers and most of the faithful, Sheriffs and visiting holidaymakers. Proclaiming the divine word, His Holiness Mr. Dorotheos II, on the occasion of the Lord's question to Peter "of little faith, on what did you stand", underlined three fundamental messages for our time:

First, our trust in God; the difficulties and "storms" of life often frighten us, but the presence of Christ is always close to us, to support us and save us!

Second, the danger of lack of faith: When we turn our attention to the problems of life, to the wind and the waves, instead of to Christ, then we lose our courage and hope and risk "sinking".

The part about turning our eyes to the wind and waves instead of Christ really hit home — I catch myself doing that with everyday stresses at school. Nice to see so many locals and summer visitors packed in together for the liturgy. The mayor and firefighters being there too makes it feel like the whole community showed up.
