Australia: Most teenagers still using social media three months after ban came into effecttranslated

More than 8 in 10 Australian teenagers were still using social media three months after the government banned access for under-16s because companies failed to enforce effective controls, Australia's internet regulator said. In a report published today eSafety also found that most children aged between 10 and 15 used social media as often in March as they did before the ban came into force on 10 December 2025, while parental awareness of their habits also fell.

"Most children under 16 who had social media accounts before the ban were able to either keep them or create new ones after three months, with the inability of social media platforms to implement effective age control measures cited as the main reason," eSafety noted in a statement.
