On the prohibition of marriage for monks and “virgins who have dedicated themselves to God.”
A virgin who has dedicated herself to the Lord God, and likewise monastics, are not allowed to marry. If there are still those who do such things, let them be deprived of fellowship. However, we have determined that the local bishop has full power to show them philanthropy.

Παρθένον ἀναθεῖσαν ἑαυτὴν τῷ δεσπότῃ Θεῷ, ὡσαύτως δὲ καὶ μονάζοντας, μὴ ἐξεῖναι γάμῳ προσομιλεῖν. Εἰ δέ γε εὑρεθεῖεν τοῦτο ποιοῦντες, ἔστωσαν ἀκοινώνητοι. Ὡρίσαμεν δὲ ἔχειν τὴν αὐθεντίαν τῆς ἐπ᾿ αὐτοῖς φιλανθρωπίας τὸν κατὰ τόπον ἐπίσκοπον.
