Against the heresy of Pelagius. About anathema to those who claim that saints in the Lord's Prayer ask for forgiveness of sins in relation to other people, and not about themselves.
It was pleasing: anyone who says that the saints in the Lord's Prayer say forgive us our debts (Matthew 6:12) not for themselves, since they no longer need this petition, but for others, sinners from their people, and that none of the saints says forgive me my debts, but says forgive us our debts, so that it is clear that the righteous asks rather for others than for himself - let him be anathema. After all, ap. James was holy and righteous when he said, “We all sin greatly” (James 3:2). Why is “all” added, if not so that this thought would be in agreement with the psalm in which we read: Do not enter into judgment with Your servant, for no one living will be justified before You, and with the prayer of the wise Solomon: “There is no man who has not sinned” (see 1 Kings 8:46), and with the saying from the book of St. Job: “He sets a seal on every man’s hand, so that every man may know his own weakness” (see Job 37:7)? For the same reason, the holy and righteous prophet Daniel, speaking in the plural: We have sinned, we have acted wickedly (Dan. 9:5), etc., which he humbly and truly confesses there, after this, so that they would not think (as some understand) that he is not speaking about his own sins, but rather about the sins of his people, said: “I prayed and confessed my sins and the sins of my people to the Lord my God” (see. Dan.9:20). He did not want to say “our sins,” but “my people’s” and “my own,” since the prophet seemed to have foreseen that those would appear who would misunderstand this.
