About the prohibition to baptize and give communion to the dead.
It was desirable that the Eucharist should not be taught to the bodies of the dead. For it is written: Take, eat (Matthew 26:26), but the bodies of the dead can neither receive nor eat. It was also desirable that the ignorance of the elders should not baptize those who had already died.
