Against the bishops who violated the decrees 7, 8 and 9 of this council.
These saving, justified and befitting definitions of our priestly dignity, pleasing to God and people, will not be able to retain their meaning and power if the decisions made are not accompanied by intimidation. For we ourselves know that often, because of the shamelessness of a few, the divine and most venerable name of the priesthood has been reproached. So, if anyone, trying to please pride and arrogance more than God, dares to do something different contrary to what was decided by everyone, let him know from now on that he is making himself obligated to answer for a crime and loses the honor and dignity of a bishop.

Γαυδέντιος ἐπίσκοπος εἶπεν· Ταῦτα σωτηριωδῶς καὶ ἀκολούθως ὁρισθέντα, καὶ πρεπόντως τῇ ἐπιτιμίᾳ ἡμῶν τῶν ἱερέων, καὶ Θεῷ ἀρέσαντα καὶ ἀνθρώποις, τὴν δύναμιν καὶ τὴν ἰσχὺν ἑαυτῶν κατασχεῖν οὐ δυνήσονται, ἐὰν μὴ καὶ φόβος ταῖς ἐξενεχθείσαις ἀποφάσεσιν ἀκολουθήσῃ· ἴσμεν γὰρ καὶ αὐτοί, πλεονάκις διὰ τὴν ὀλίγων ἀναισχυντίαν τὸ θεῖον καὶ σεβασμιώτατον ὄνομα τῆς ἱερωσύνης εἰς κατάγνωσιν ἐληλυθέναι. Εἰ τοίνυν τις παρὰ τὰ πᾶσι δόξαντα τολμῆσοι, σπουδάζων τύφῳ μᾶλλον καὶ ἀλαζονείᾳ, ἢ τῷ Θεῷ ἀρέσαι, ἕτερόν τι διαπράξασθαι, ἤδη γινωσκέτω ἐγκλήματι ἀπολογίας ἑαυτὸν ὑπεύθυνον καθίστασθαι, καὶ τὴν τιμὴν καὶ τὸ ἀξίωμα τῆς ἐπισκοπῆς ἀποβάλλειν. Ἅπαντες ἀπεκρίναντο· Πρέπει καὶ ἀρέσκει ἡμῖν ἡ τοιαύτη γνώμη.[1]
