On the prohibition of marriages of persons in the 4th degree of consanguinity and side. two-relative properties.
Since the Divine Scripture clearly teaches us: Do not go in to any of your relatives according to the flesh in order to reveal his shame (see Lev. 18:6), then the God-bearing Basil, although he listed some of the prohibited marriages in his rules, passed over most of them in silence, bringing us benefit in both ways. Namely, having rejected many shameful names, so as not to defile speech with these words, he designated uncleanness with general names, through which he pointed out to us lawless marriages in general. But since, due to this silence and the insufficiently clear distinction between unlawful marriages, nature confused itself, we decided to speak about this subject more openly.
We determine from now on that whoever enters into marriage with his cousin, or a father and son with a mother and daughter, or a father and son with two virgin sisters, or a mother and daughter with two brothers, or two brothers with two sisters, are subject to a seven-year penance, of course, after their removal from illegal cohabitation.

Τῆς θείας ἡμᾶς οὕτω σαφῶς ἐκδιδασκούσης Γραφῆς, Οὐκ᾿ εἰσελεύσῃ πρὸς πάντα οἰκεῖον σαρκός σου, ἀποκαλύψαι ἀσχημοσύνην αὐτοῦ· ὁ θεοφόρος Βασίλειός τινας τῶν ἀπηγορευμένων γάμων ἐν τοῖς οἰκείοις κανόσιν ἀπηριθμήσατο, σιωπῇ τὰ πλεῖστα παραδραμών, καὶ κατ᾿ ἀμφότερα κατασκευάσας ἡμῖν τὸ ὠφέλιμον.
