About the prohibition of bringing animals into the temple unless absolutely necessary.
Let no one bring any animals inside the sacred temple, unless someone stops in the temple during a journey, since, having no home and shelter, he will be constrained by the greatest need. After all, if you do not bring the animal inside, it may die, and he himself, having lost the animal and therefore not being able to set off, will be in mortal danger. For we have been taught that the Sabbath is for man’s sake (Mark 2:27), and therefore we believe that man’s salvation and safety should be preferred over everything. If someone is caught unnecessarily, as has been said, introducing animals into the temple, then if he is a cleric, he will be expelled, and if he is a layman, he will be excommunicated.
