You made the Church of Christ glad with the crown of your tongue,/ through touching hymns,/ with the theology of the Holy Trinity/ you told everyone the glory clearly,/ so you, like a cryptic speaker, We sing,/ to Andrew, the shepherd of Crete,/ and we magnify your memory,// Christ is most glorious in His saints.
Oh, most honorable and sacred head and filled with the grace of the Holy Spirit, the abode of the Savior with the Father, great bishop, our warm intercessor, Saint Andrew! Standing at the Throne of all the King and enjoying the light of the consubstantial Trinity and the cherubic Angels proclaiming the trisagion hymn, having great and unexplored boldness towards the all-merciful Master, pray May the flock of Christ be saved by the people, establish the welfare of the holy churches: the bishops adorn the splendor of holiness, strengthen the monastics with the feat of the good trend, the reigning city and all cities and preserve the countries well, and keep the holy immaculate faith, pacify the whole world through your intercession, deliver us from famine and destruction, and save from the attacks of foreigners, old comforts, young ones instruct, make the foolish wise, have mercy on widows, stand for orphans, grow up babies, return captives, the weak and those who pray to you from all misfortunes and troubles through your intercession for freedom: pray for us The All-Bountiful and Humane-loving Christ our God, and on the day of His Terrible Coming, He will deliver us from this foolish state, and He will create the joys of the holy communion with all the saints forever and ever. Amen.
Great bishop, our warm intercessor, Saint Andrew! Hear the humble prayer of your servant (name). Incline God's mercy to me and help me in my sorrow (content of the petition). May the All-Merciful Lord deliver us from troubles and misfortunes and create the joy of the holy communions with all the saints forever and ever. Amen.
Remembrance Day July 4/17
Saint Andrew of Crete is the author of the Great Penitential Canon, read during the days of Great Lent. Being mute from birth, he received permission for his muteness and the gift of speech after prayers and communion of the Holy Mysteries. They pray to him for the granting of a feeling of repentance, for healing from dumbness.
