The Most Reverend Metropolitan of Kinshasa, Mr. Theodosios, celebrated the Divine Liturgy today at the Holy Church of Panagia "Axion Estin" in the city of Kinshasa. The Archimandrite Fr. Theodoros, the vicar of the Church, Protopresbyter Fr. Kyrillos, as well as the Deacons Fr. Kyprianos and Fr. Aaron, collaborated. In his sermon, His Holiness referred to the incident of the miracle at Lake Gennesaret, stressing that it was a spiritual exercise and test for the disciples to strengthen their faith and prepare for their mission.

At the same time, he underlined that Lake Gennesaret is an image of the world. "Above the sea," he said, "a boat sails, in a spiritual sense, with Christ as its captain, the sailors the Holy Apostles and the respective teachers and Fathers of the Church, and all the faithful of every era as passengers." This vessel is the Orthodox Church. It sails unceasingly through the world. He rarely finds peace; usually the devil raises storms and waves. These, in a spiritual sense, are the furious attacks which the Church receives from heresies and those who seek to pervert the true faith. »

I liked this talk about the ship and Captain Christ very much. It reminds me of a time when we were riding a small boat on the Beirut River and a storm suddenly came. We were all afraid except for one of the young men who said, “Call on Christ to guide her.” Today, too, in my school, I feel that the children are facing “storms” from every direction, so I always try to remind them who is the real captain.
