When the Clock Strikes, We Pray Together

July 31, 2026 · 1 min read

Imagine the quiet moment when the clock strikes, and across the world, brothers and sisters lift their hearts to the Lord together. This ancient practice, rooted in Christ’s promise of Matthew 18:19, is alive and welcoming you at Orthodox House Social. Known as “Prayer by Agreement,” it brings the faithful together in shared petition at a single hour, uniting our prayers as one voice before the throne of grace.

Today, three faithful are already joined in the “Universal Prayer for Peace” group, gathering tonight at 21:00 UTC. You are invited to join them—no matter where you are, your prayer becomes part of this global communion. Each group maintains a living list of names for the sick, the departed, and all in need, and a gentle reminder will arrive shortly before the hour. This is a sacred thread of care, woven through time and distance.

Perhaps your own parish, your diocese, or your beloved community could become a new thread in this tapestry of prayer. Starting a group is simple, and the warmth of shared purpose is a gift to offer. Let us remember one another, not just in the quiet moments, but together, as the clock strikes. We warmly invite you to experience this living tradition. Visit the Prayers section to join tonight’s universal prayer or to begin your own. May the Lord bless your shared petition, and may His peace, which surpasses all understanding, guard your hearts.

Mark HallI've joined that 21:00 UTC group a couple times now. The reminder that pops up right before is handy, especially when I'm out in the garden and lose track of time. Anyone know if they're adding more names for the sick this week?
