The World Congress of Syriac Studies has opened in Bucharest: More than 400 researchers from 35 countries are participatingtranslated

More than 400 scholars, religious leaders and academics from 35 countries attended the opening of the World Congress of Syriac Studies and the International Conference of Arab Christian Studies on Monday.

The opening ceremony took place in the Ion I. C. Brătianu Hall of the Palace of the Parliament in Bucharest. The general director of the Institute of Advanced Studies for the Culture and Civilization of the Levant, Cătălin-Ștefan Popa, opened the proceedings of the congress, emphasizing the importance of the Syriac tradition for Christianity.

"Syriac Christianity is the Christian tradition that preserved and transmitted the language spoken by Jesus Christ and His first disciples."
