Your Holiness Abune Basilios I, Patriarch of the Eritrean Orthodox Tewahedo Church. Esteemed Leaders of the Eritrean Orthodox Tewahedo Church,

With profound sorrow, I have learned of the falling asleep in the Lord of His Excellency Ambassador Yoftahe Demetros, former General Administrator of the Eritrean Orthodox Tewahedo Church.

On behalf of the World Council of Churches and personally, I extend my deepest condolences to Your Holiness, the leadership, clergy, faithful, and the bereaved family of the Eritrean Orthodox Tewahedo Church.

We give thanks to Almighty God for the life and faithful service of His Excellency Ambassador Yoftahe Demetros, a devoted diplomat and faithful servant of the Church, who dedicated more than twelve years of distinguished service to the Eritrean Orthodox Tewahedo Church. His wisdom, dedication, humility, and commitment to the service of the Church will be remembered with deep gratitude and respect.
