If it is discovered that any bishop or abbot alienates and transfers into the hands of the authorities or another person something from the lands of a bishopric or monastery, this transfer will be invalid, according to the rule of the holy apostles, which reads: “Let the bishop take care of all church things and dispose of them as in the eyes of God. But it is not permissible for him to appropriate any of them or give any of them to his relatives. If they are poor, then let him help them as if they were poor, but let him not sell under this pretext what belongs to the Church.” If the bishop or abbot justifies himself by saying that the field causes a loss and does not bring any benefit, then even under such conditions the land should not be given to local rulers, but to clergy or farmers. If he uses a crafty trick and the ruler buys a field from a cleric or a farmer, then in this case the sale will be invalid and what was sold will be returned to the bishopric or monastery, and the bishop or abbot who does this will be expelled - the bishop from the bishopric, and the abbot from the monastery, as criminally wasting what they did not collect.
