About lifelong ban in ministry with retention of their degree for elders who, out of ignorance, entered into an illegal marriage.
A presbyter who, out of ignorance, has entered into an unlawful marriage, let him use the presbyteral seat, in accordance with what is laid down for us by the sacred rule, and abstain from other actions. For forgiveness is enough for such a person, but one who must take care of his own wounds should not bless another, since blessing is the teaching of sanctification; he who does not have it because of a sin committed out of ignorance, how will he teach it to another? Therefore, let him not bless either publicly or privately, and not share the Body of the Lord with others, and not perform any other service, but, content with the place he occupies, let him ask with tears other people and the Lord to forgive him for his lawless act committed out of ignorance. Moreover, it is obvious that such an unlawful marriage must be dissolved and the husband under no circumstances can cohabit with the one for whom he was deprived of the right to officiate.

Πρεσβύτερον, τὸν κατὰ ἄγνοιαν ἀθέσμῳ γάμῳ περιπαρέντα, καθέδρας μὲν μετέχειν, κατὰ τὰ ὑπὸ τοῦ ἱεροῦ κανόνος ἡμῖν νομοθετηθέντα, τῶν δὲ λοιπῶν ἐνεργειῶν ἀπέχεσθαι· ἀρκετὸν γὰρ τῷ τοιούτῳ ἡ συγγνώμη. Εὐλογεῖν δὲ ἕτερον τὸν τὰ οἰκεῖα τημελεῖν ὀφείλοντα τραύματα, ἀνακόλουθον· εὐλογία γάρ, ἁγιασμοῦ μετάδοσίς ἐστιν· ὁ δὲ τοῦτον μὴ ἔχων, διὰ τὸ ἐκ τῆς ἀγνοίας παράπτωμα, πῶς ἑτέρῳ μεταδώσει; Μήτε τοίνυν δημοσίᾳ, μήτε ἰδίᾳ εὐλογείτω· μήτε τὸ σῶμα τοῦ Κυρίου διανεμέτω ἑτέροις, μήτε τι ἄλλο λειτουργείτω· ἀλλ᾿ ἀρκούμενος τῇ προεδρίᾳ προσκλαιέτω τῷ Κυρίῳ, συνχωρηθῆναι αὐτῷ τὸ ἐκ τῆς ἀγνοίας ἀνόμημα. Πρόδηλον γάρ, ὡς ὁ τοιοῦτος ἄθεσμος γάμος διαλυθήσεται, καὶ οὐδαμῶς ὁ ἀνὴρ μετουσίαν ἕξει πρὸς τήν, δι᾿ ἧς τῆς ἱερᾶς ἐνεργείας ἐστέρηται.
