New €3.4 million medical centre to be built on Mount Athos

A new multi-purpose regional medical centre is to be established on Mount Athos with €3.4 million in funding from the Region of Central Macedonia, following the signing of the relevant decision by Regional Governor Athina Aidona.
The new facility will provide healthcare services to both monks and pilgrims visiting Mount Athos. It will operate under the responsibility of Greece’s 4th Regional Health Authority and will be housed in a new building to be constructed at the Holy Monastery of Vatopedi.
Aidona said the project, implemented in cooperation with the Ministry of Health and the 4th Regional Health Authority, would address a significant gap in healthcare provision on Mount Athos and constitute an important legacy for the Athonite community.
She added that the Region of Central Macedonia has consistently supported Mount Athos through projects aimed at protecting its architectural, cultural and religious heritage and natural environment, while also improving infrastructure and the daily lives of monks and pilgrims.
