The Pskov-Pechersk monastery, / from ancient times glorious, the miracles of the icon of the Mother of God, / many monks raised God, / there and the Monk Cornelius / fought a good feat, / a wonderful Glorifying the Mother of God, / enlightening the Gentiles, / saving monks and many people, / wonderfully decorating and fencing her monastery. / There are crowns of martyrdom / through many years of shepherding his valiantly accepted./ Moreover, let us sing, people,/ to Christ God and His Most Pure Mother,/ for they have given us the glorious monk martyr// and the worthy prayer book for our souls.
You were the bright lamp of Orthodoxy/ and the great defense of the Pskov land,/ eradicating polytheism and instructing people to God./ The house of the Mother of God was strengthened and glorified by you,/ by virtues adorned, you have received the crown of the martyr, // remember us, your children, also with the Lord, Venerable Martyr Cornelius.
Oh, holy venerable martyr Cornelius! We humbly fall before the race of your relics and tenderly pray to you: graciously look upon our spiritual and physical sorrows and grant us deliverance; Help us, Holy One of God, from the slander of evil people, from whom you yourself suffered innocently on earth. Protect us from the violence of the devil, who passionately fights in our weak lands, beg the Lord God and His Most Pure Mother to grant us a quiet and sinless life, mutual brotherhood unhypocritical love and a peaceful Christian death, so that with a clear conscience we may present ourselves to the unhypocritical terrible Judgment Seat of Christ, and in His Kingdom we will glorify the Life-Giving Trinity, the Father and Son and Holy Spirit, forever and ever. Abbot of the Pskov-Pechersk monastery. He was executed by false libel by Ivan the Terrible during his pacifying campaign against Pskov. After his death, he more than once showed assistance to the Pechersk monastery during sieges by the enemy.
