Canon of Ecumenical Parental Saturdays

РусскийالعربيةБългарскиČeštinaDeutschΕλληνικάEnglishEspañolFrançaisქართულიМакедонскиPolskiRomânăSlovenčinaShqipСрпскиУкраїнська

This canon is read 2 times a year, only on Ecumenical Parental Saturdays: Meat Saturday (on Saturday the week before Lent) and Trinity Saturday (on Saturday before the Feast of the Holy Trinity).

The specificity of this canon is that there is prayer for all the deceased in general, whereas we are used to praying mainly for relatives. Reading the canon of the Meat Saturday, instead of private worship (praying for specific people), we rise to the awareness of ourselves as a grain of sand, as part of the Universal Church and pray for all Christians (namely Christians, not all people in general) who have ever lived, a small part of those we know and a huge number of unknown people.

Strictly speaking, even notes with names at services where this canon is read are not appropriate.

You can read this canon outside of worship, privately (at home) on other days of the year.

Canon of Triodion. Voice 8.
Song 1.

Irmos: Let us sing a song of people / to our wonderful God, / who freed Israel from work, / a song of victory, singing and crying: / we will sing to You, the only Master.

Let us all pray to Christ, / who has created remembrance today of the dead, / that he may deliver eternal fire to those who have fallen asleep in faith, / and the hope of eternal life.

By the depth of your destinies, O Christ, / the All-Wise One, you have predetermined / the end of life, the limit and the image. / Moreover, I have covered the grave in every country, / the All-Bountiful One will save you at the trial.

You have given the limits of our life, / even those who have fallen from the night of life, / show the uneven day to the sons, Lord, / Orthodox priests, and all Your faithful people.

Even the water has covered, and the battle has been reaped, / the coward has already been embraced, and the murderers have been killed, / and the fire has already fallen, O faithful ones, / Be merciful in dealing with the righteous.

Despise all our carnal debts, O our Savior, / in every age of the entire human race, / stand before Thy judgment without condemnation, / answering to Thee the Creator.

Glory, Trinity: Three united Natures I sing, Self-hypostatic Persons, / unbegotten of the Father, the begotten Son, and the Holy Spirit: / beginningless Kingdom, power, one Divinity.

And now, the Mother of God: Truly You have appeared as heaven on earth, / greater than the highest heaven, Blessed Virgin: / from You the Sun has risen in the world, ruling over righteousness.

Song 2.

Irmos: You see, / for I am your God, / born from the Father in the first world, / and from the Virgin in the last, without a husband, / and the destructive sin of the forefather Adam, as the Lover of Mankind.

You see, for I am your God, / having established the limits of life with righteous judgment, / receiving all the fallen into incorruption from aphids, / in the hope of the eternal resurrection.

From the four ends of the Lord, accept the faithfully departed, / in the sea, or on the earth, or in the rivers, springs, or ezerikh, / or in the same age food that was eaten by beasts, and May the birds and reptiles rest in peace.

In Your hand, all things, Lord, / Thou didst foreordain them to be resolved into four, / at Thy coming Thou didst raise them up, / all that were in ignorance and understanding, thereby forgiving sins.

Oh your terrible second coming, Lord! / Once upon a time you came to earth in the form of lightning, / causing all your creation to be judged, / those who then lived in faith in you, / who found you to be like you.

Glory, Trinity: Most Perfect Unity, Most Divine, Trinitarian, / Unborn Father and Only Begotten Son, The Soul proceeds from the Father, but is the Son: / One Being and Nature, Lordship, Kingdom, save us all.

And now, Mother of God: The unspeakable miracle of Your Nativity, Mother of the Virgin: / how do you give birth and are also pure? / How do you Otrocha give birth, and not weigh the temptation of a man? / Like a message more than nature, the Word of God born from Me is new.

Song 3.

Irmos: Establish with Your hand, O Word of God, the heavens, / with the enlightenment of Your true knowledge, / confirm our hearts that trust in You.

Having passed the course of life, / in the glory of the pious righteous, be clothed with the crown of grace, O God, / and enjoy eternal blessings.

In vain, caught in vain, burned by lightning, / and frozen with frost, and with every wound, / rest, O God, when you have tempted everything with fire.

The sea of eternal life has floated, O Christ, / into Thy imperishable life, a haven of refuge, / nourished by the Orthodox life.

Whose every creature of the sea and the birds of the air will be devoured by Christ, by Thy destinies, / resurrect, O God, on the last day with glory.

Glory, Trinity: Intelligently the Divine Unit, / in three Persons, simply interspersing the insectless copulation: / like the speed of lightning, tri-shining is seen in unity.

And now, the Mother of God: Your bewildered miracle: you gave birth without a husband, / and you kept your pure virginity when you were born. / And there are many angels, and the human race sings to Thee forever.

Sedalen, voice 5:

For our sake, you endured the Cross and death, / and the mortifying hell, and the co-resurrection of the dead, / departed from us, O Savior, rest in peace, as the Lover of Mankind, / and at Your trembling and terrible coming O life-giver, / for thou hast abundant mercy, / Thy kingdom is a blessing.

Glory. And now, Mother of God: Show Your speedy protection, and help, and mercy on Your servants, / and Pure waves, tame vain thoughts, / and raise up my fallen soul, O Mother of God, / for we know the Virgin, as you can, as you can, and as you will.

Song 4.

Irmos: From the mountain overshadowed by the Word, O prophet, / the one Mother of God, / wanting to be incarnate, see God-like, / and glorify Your power with fear.

Fathers and forefathers, grandfathers and great-grandfathers, / from the first and even to the last, / in the goodness of the dead and in good faith, / remember all, our Savior.

In grief, on the way, in deserted places, those who left their lives in faith, / the monks and the Balti people, the young men and the elders, / lived with the saints in Christ.

From the sadness and joy that passed unreliably, / through faith, life changed, / in the prosperity of the sufferer, or in atrocity, / all rest, our Savior.

Even if you kill the sword, and the horse will fall, / hail, snow and multiplied clouds, / even if you strangle the plinth, or the dust of the dust, / Christ our Savior, rest.

Glory, Trinity: It is strange that there is one, and three, / The Divinity is all in one Person, inseparable: / For the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit are worshiped, for there is one God.

And now, Mother of God: Direct us, Virgin, with Your prayers, / caring for those overwhelmed by the wave of sin, / to the saving haven, Mother of God, / delivering from all evil.

Song 5.

Irmos: My spirit will awaken to You, O God, / the light of the command of Your coming will shine, / in which our Master will illuminate our mind, / and guide us on the path of life.

Every day the memory of those who died piously / from eternity has been created, O Lord, / we diligently cry out to You: / all rest is with Your saints.

From everyone you have received, generation and generation / of kings, princes, or Orthodox monastics, Generous, / deliver eternal torment.

All those whom you have created, useful and knowledgeable, / whom you have allowed, the Lord, to die precariously through sudden falls, / deliver from all torment, our God.

The ever-scorching fire, and from the unlighted darkness, / the gnashing of teeth, and the endlessly tormenting worm, and all torment / deliver, O our Savior, all that truly died.

Glory, Trinity: One-throne, beginningless, Trinitarian Unity, / by division Unity, and contrary to the Persons having a Nature, / united us into one by the will of Your commandments.

And now, the Mother of God: More than the fiery seraphim, you appeared, the Most Pure and Honest, / having given birth to the unapproachable Jesus the Savior, / the embodiment of the deified mixture of earthly beings.

Song 6.

Irmos: O Lover of mankind, accept me, my sins are many / and fall into Your bounty, / as a prophet, O Lord, and save me.

Having resolved the diseases of death, having suffered, O our God, the Author of life, / may your servants who have departed from eternity rest.

By Thy unspeakable destinies, / even the slaying of enchanting drink, poison, bone strangulation, / with the saints, Lord, rest.

Whenever you are judged by all things, / standing naked and revealed before Thy face, / then, O Generous One, have mercy on those who have served Thee faithfully, O God.

With the last trumpet I sounded Your Archangel, / for the resurrection of life / of all, then Christ, Your servants, rest.

From time immemorial you have received the faithful, O God, / every generation of mankind, / to glorify You forever with those who serve You.

Glory, Trinity: Trisagion Godhead, One-throne, / Father, Son with the Holy Spirit, / Thou art my God, by Thy almighty uphold all things.

And now, the Mother of God: From your root the flower of life has risen, / Father Jesse leapt / saving the world, from the Pure Maiden Christ God.

Kontakion, tone 8:

Rest with the saints, / Christ, / Thy servant of the soul, / where there is no sickness, no sorrow, / no sighing, / but endless life.

Ikos:

Thou art the only immortal One, / who created and created man: / to this earth we were created from the earth, / and to the other earth we will go, / as you commanded, who created me and who gave me a river: / as you are the earth, and to the earth you will return, / and even if all men will go, / a funeral lament creating a song: / Hallelujah.

Song 7.

Irmos: In the beginning you founded the earth, / and established the heavens with the Word, / blessed art thou forever, / Lord God our Father.

Blessed are you forever, O Lord God our Father.

Suddenly she died piously, and from the rapids of all things fallen, / wood, iron, every stone, / rest, O God, the faithful departed.

At Your terrible coming, Thou hast placed Bountifully at the right hand of Thy sheep, / Orthodox, those who have served Christ in life, and who have come to You.

In the face of Christ, Your chosen ones, Your servants, cry to You: / Blessed are You forever, O Lord God our Father.

From the earth you have shared the dust, / quickened the flesh with the Spirit, O Generous Savior, / what you have received, God rest you, in an ageless belly.

Glory, Trinity: Like the three suns is the Divinity, / may the Divinity be sung by the dissolution of one light, / the Father, and the Son, and the Divine Spirit, / one in Nature, but three in Hypostasis.

And now, the Mother of God: in accordance with David, we sing the song of Ty, / calling Thee the Virgin Mountain of God, / in which the Word has taken up flesh, / deified us spiritually in Himself.

Song 8.

Irmos: Glorified on the mountain of saints, / and in the bush with fire of the Ever-Virgin Moses, the mystery was revealed, / Sing to the Lord and exalt to all ages.

Having first broken the shadow of death, / rising like the sun from the grave, / created the sons of Your Resurrection, O Lord of glory, / all who died in faith, forever.

Unknown and hidden to the Witness, / when you want to reveal the works of darkness and the counsels of our hearts, / then do not exhaust the words with all those who have fallen asleep in faith.

When you sit on the throne, and order them to appear before the court, / gathered by a trumpet from the ends of the earth, / then spare everyone, O Christ, who is merciful.

Those who died in vain from accidents, / from the cry of the green and rapid current, / from strangling, strangling, and kicking, / the Lord of glory, weakened those who have fallen by faith forever.

Let us bless the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit, the Lord.

As I sing Thee as the Unity Being, / as I honor Thee as the Trinity of Persons: / Father, and Son, and Holy Soul, / I glorify the beginningless power of Your Kingdom forever.

And now and ever and unto ages of ages, amen.

Theotokos: A living stream, a sealed source, appeared to the Virgin Mary: / having given birth to the Lord without a husband, / watered the faithful immortality with water forever.

We praise, bless, and worship the Lord, singing and exalting ourselves forever.

Song 9.

Irmos: Manifested on the mountain of the lawmaker in lights and bushes / the Nativity of the Ever-Virgin, / in our faithful salvation, / with songs of non-silent majesty.

Where is the dwelling of Your saints who rejoice, O Lord, / all who have fallen asleep from time immemorial, may rejoice in faith and hope.

Having died by God’s rebuke, / all kinds of mortal thunders carried from heaven, / the earth divided, the sea roaring, / all the faithful, O Christ, rest.

Every age, old and young, / babies and children, and pissing milk, / male and female nature, / rest, O God, that thou hast received the faithful.

From the poisonous remorse of the deceased, / from the devouring of serpents, from the trampling of horses, / and from strangulation, and the promise from the sincere, / by the faith of You, who served for repose.

Whoever died in faith by name, / from time immemorial and from generation to generation, / will present You without condemnation to Your Word, / at the coming of Your grace.

Glory, Trinity: One God in the Trinity, glory to You unceasingly: / even though God is One, but there is one Nature, / Father, and Son, and Spirit, with three-light properties.

And now, the Mother of God: Thy Nativity is greater than the mind: you gave birth to the One who existed, / and fed on milk unspeakably, the Giver of the world, / holding Him who contains everything, the only Christ / Our Savior, All-blameless.

Exapostilary.

Thou art possessor of the living and the dead, / may Thy servants rest in the chosen villages, / even though she sinned, O Saviour, but did not depart from Thee.

Glory: May Thy servant rest in the land of the living, Lord, / from whom sickness, sadness and sighing together will flee, / cleanse, as the Lover of Mankind, even those who have sinned in life, / alone Thou art sinless and merciful, / Lord of the dead and the living.

And now, Mother of God: Mary, Bride of God, continually pray to Christ for us, Thy servants, / with the God-speaking prophets, and the martyr councils, / the hierarchs and the venerables, and all the righteous, / to be heirs Heavenly Kingdom.
