Troparion, tone 4

The Gospel of Christ, the true novices/ appeared, venerables,/ the world and everything in it, as if it did not exist,/ exceeding love for the sake of Christ/ and settled in the sea island,/ and laboriously against the machinations of invisible enemies we labored, / by fasting, vigil and all-night standing / we submitted our flesh to the spirit of wisdom by nature. / For this reason, from the Almighty Right Hand worthy crowns have received by nature./ And now the Most Holy Trinity stands,/ pray, all-blessed fathers, Sergius and Herman,/ to preserve our Fatherland in peace// and to save our souls ours.

Kontakion, tone 4

Having left the life of the world,/ by rejecting the world you followed Christ,/ and reached the great Neva River,/ and, in it on the island of Valaam,/ the equal life of the angels lived in nature,/ From there, rejoicing, they naturally went to the heavenly palace./ And now from the Angels the Master of the Throne stands,/ remember us, your children,/ who have gathered together naturally, God-wisdom,/ with joy from Our souls cry out: Rejoice, Sergius and Germans, blessed fathers.

Prayer 1st

Oh, our great fathers, saints of Christ and warm representatives to the Savior for our souls, Sergius and Herman! You have appeared as healers to those who are ill, as helmsmen on the sea, as safe deliverance to those who are drowning, and as guardians from every deadly invasion, and especially as liberation from unclean spirits and all kinds of slander against us, cleansing and help. O blessed fathers and wonderworkers of glory, Sergius and Herman, pray to the Lord Christ for us sinners, that by your prayers we may be honored on the Day of Judgment of the right hand and enjoyment in the Kingdom of God forever and ever. Amen.

Prayer 2

Oh, reverend, God-bearing, blessed fathers Sergius and German, spectators of the glory of God in the Heavenly Kingdom! Do not despise us sinners in our needs and sorrows, but hasten those who come running to you to help: accept sighs and tears and listen to our humble prayer. It is coming to the Heavenly King, for His blessedness, pray for His goodness to show mercy to the place of your settlement and to send down to every city and country an abundance of earthly blessings; Confirm us all in faith and virtues, and always deliver us from sinful lusts and from the attacks of visible and invisible enemies: protect the offended, heal the sick, from the torment of the evil ones to free the spirits, to preserve those floating on the sea, to help those who travel and to help every faithful in their needs: for of Him all creation is, and of Him is the Kingdom, and the power, and glory forever and ever. Amen.

Prayer 3rd

Oh, our reverend and God-bearing fathers Sergius and Germans! With faith and love, falling to your holy icon, we tenderly pray to you: do not forget us, unworthy and sinners (names), but by your intercession protect us from the evil machinations of the enemy: quench the rebellion of passions: strengthen our weakness in the spiritual battles and labors set before us: take away all despondency and sinful sadness from our hearts, and Heavenly consolation Send down to us in our labors and sorrows. In the terrible hour of death, appear to all of us, as the blazing intercessors and the dark eyes of demons drive away: so that in peace and repentance, having ended our earthly career, we will achieve eternal blessings enjoyment, and together with you let us sing and glorify the all-holy name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit, now and ever and unto the ages of ages. Amen.

The founders of the first monastic monastery in the harsh northern region - on the island of Valaam in Lake Ladoga. According to legend, they were Athonite monks who were looking for extreme feats and wanted to enlighten the northern pagan peoples with the light of the Christian faith. They pray to St. Sergius and Herman of Valaam in their desire to enter the path of monasticism, for help in monastic work.
